The Mentoplasty allows to handle purely aesthetic malformations affecting the chin process, leaving to the Maxillofacial Surgery the major malformations associated with dental occlusion alterations. In the case of receding chin (hypotrophy chin guard) it is possible to use, as for the Malaroplasty, solid silicon prosthesis implants through the lower gingival fornix, or alternatively, the injection of Dermal Fillers or autologous adipose tissue plant (Lipofilling). Conversely, in the case of slight chin protrusion (hypertrophy chin guard), it is performed the removal of excess bone tissue through the use of appropriate bone cutters which allow its complete remodeling. The surgery is usually done under local anesthesia in Day Hospital.
