Mastopexy is the intervention that serves to correct mammary ptosis, in other words a drop in the breast due diverse factors such as: excessive weight loss, pregnancies, mammary hypertrophy (increased volume) and ageing. The intervention consists of repositioning the mammary gland in its original site (pectoral region), anchoring it to the pectoral muscle and in the removal of excess cutis (Breast lifting). In the case of breasts too small for pexis, recourse is taken to prosthetic implantation to obtain the desired volume. It is a rather complex intervention requiring good experience on the surgeon’s part. Also, to be successful, correct surgical techniques must be used that permit breast lifting and anchorage, without leaving too evident and disfiguring scars. The intervention lasts for around 3 – 4 hours and requires 1 – 2 days of hospitalisation. Stitch removal after 7 – 10 days.
